The above links will take you to listings in the form of spreadsheet "workbooks" which you may download to Excel or similar spreadsheet programs. At the bottom of each spreadsheet there are links for the various types of equipment (hoppers, boxcars, flat cars, etc.). You may need to go to the bottom of the listings to bring the links into view.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The spreadsheet listings show stock currently on hand. The photos, however, are NOT updated to show current stock on hand. Therefore, consult the LISTINGS - NOT the pictures- for availability.

THE INVENTORY IN GENERAL

Total inventory includes in excess of 2000 items (mostly Athearn) which fall into these 3 groups:

  1. Used, clean, well cared for equipment from the layout, built from kits or RTR, with KD or McHenry knuckle couplers upgrades and metal wheels.
  2. BlueBox kits, new, exactly as supplied by Athearn/Bevbel. Many include metal wheels and magnetic knuckle couplers.
  3. RTR. New in box.

Used Equipment - Appearance Factor: Most all cars are clean and unweathered, with a brand new over-all appearance. However, owing to the original owner's modifications, please note as follows:

Many flat cars included loads to suit the owner's taste and imagination. We have removed the loads, but remnants of glue, pieces of plastic or wood remain. Follow this flat car appearance link for pictures of cars with left over portions of loads, fragments, residue, etc. so you have some idea of how some cars may appear when you receive them. Likewise open hoppers had coal or gravel loads made by the owner, which we have removed. Most were a friction fit, so little residue remains. Features such as roof walks on box cars and other closed cars were in some cases painted a contrasting color for visual interest. You may repaint with a close match to car color, or black, to match the prototype.

In our opinion, while the presence of some debris may be annoying, no rail modeler will be challenged by any necessary cleanup effort. Of course, we will accept return of any item which you simply cannot redeem to your satisfaction. The point here is to get what you need into your hands and not force your acceptance of anything you can't really use.

Passenger Cars: Some were assembled too hastily; have missing, caved in or glue smeared windows or other appearance defects. Others are nicely assembled. Some have interior lighting. Listings include many detailed photos of the trouble spots for you to make an evaluation.

Cabooses: Three styles: Lighting Effects, Standard and Premium cars. All, explained in the listings.

Loads:  Do you want loads for your open cars? Depending on availability, we will be glad to give you coal, sand, timber, culvert and pipe sections, structural steel, finished lumber and similar loads at no charge, to go with your order. Just ask us to toss in whatever we happen to have.

Make an offer:  If you are devoted to this hobby, then you know how easy it is to put together a large order in a hurry. Therefore, if you have a substantial order, don't be afraid to offer less than the total calculated cost.

Why we price BlueBox kits the way we do: When items are sold at very low prices, the cost of shipping looms LARGE. In the case of Blue Box kits, most of the box contains air, and the weight of the box is 35% to 40% of the total weight. Consequently, boxes take up space and add weight. Therefore, we've based our lowest pricing on shipping the item without the box. HOWEVER, many modelers DO want the box. That's fine with us, but we'll need a little extra (50 cents per item) to pay for the cost of shipping them. Finally, a minimum order of 3 cars allows us to pay the cost of shipping with no extra charge.

There is yet another option, that we call "squash box." Allow us to slice the corners of the boxes and ship them to you flat. Cost is $1 per ORDER no matter how many cars. Fold the sides of the boxes back into position, tape the corners -and you're good to go! Just select "squash box" (item no. SB) from the inventory listings.
